In beer, they did not share the same taste. Grammy award winner Liam Watson is Guinness fan, the BBs prefer strong German stuff from the north, so Liam’s favourite pub was not quite the right place for the German band. Yet, it turned out to be a real party night and this cold november evening for sure marked another important step in their career.

When piano player Dennis suddenly sat down at the piano to give a-thrilling live performance, Liam Watson apparently decided to add a new German band to his list of favourites.

He invited the five piece band from Hildesheim into his legendary ToeRag Studios where the White Stripes taped their Grammy Award-winning album „Elephant“.

So the band truck, filled up with old vintage gear, set off on the journey right into the heart of London, one of the world's greatest music capitals. It was not the first time Andreas Arlt, guitar player and composer of the band and his brother Michael on harmonica and vocals, have launched into the unknown: Music has always been their passion and it turned into a profession. They founded the band „B.B. & The Blues Shacks. At that time, not only their parents advised strongly against this and the first gigs were a desaster, in front of not more than ten people.

Meanwhile the quintet is playing more than 100 gigs a year. They have received numerous honors and awards including „Best European Blues Band“. The latest album was awarded with the German Record Critic’s Award The BB’s are touring from Moscow to Barcelona, and thrilled a crowd of 10 000 with their performance in L.A.

The new record London Days contains the Horn Section of the legendary Van Morrison.

LONDON DAYS - Das neue Album

Die BBs in London zwischen Bier, Bandmaschinen und Berufung

Beim Bier hatten sie nicht den gleichen Geschmack.

Liam Watson ist Guinnessfan, die BBs trinken lieber klares Norddeutsches, das gab es aber nicht in dem Londoner Lieblingspub des Grammy-Gewinners. Trotzdem endete es in einer echten Party, und dieser kalte Novemberabend wird ganz sicher einmal als Meilenstein in die Erfolgsgeschichte der BBs eingehen. Denn als Pianist Dennis sich spontan ans Klavier setzte und loslegte, entschied sich Liam Watson offensichtlich für eine neue deutsche Lieblingsband.

Er war bereit, mit den fünf Musikern aus Hildesheim zu arbeiten und lud sie in seine legendären ToeRag Studios, in denen schon die „White Stripes“ ihr Grammy-gekürtes Album „Elephant“ produziert haben.

Bingo: Es hatte sich also gelohnt, den Tourbus randvoll mit Verstärkern und Instrumenten zu beladen und durch den Ärmelkanal-Tunnel in Richtung Musikmetropole London zu starten.

Schon einmal startete Andreas Arlt, Gitarrist und Komponist der BBs, gemeinsam mit Bruder Michael Arlt, Sänger und Mundharmoniker-Spieler, ins Ungewisse: Als sie sich vor zwanzig Jahren entschlossen, ihre Leidenschaft zum Beruf zu machen und die Band „B.B. & The Blues Shacks“ zu gründen. Nicht nur die Eltern rieten ihnen damals dringend von dieser „brotlosen Kunst“ ab. Zu den ersten Konzerten kamen dann auch prompt nur gut zehn Zuhörer.

Inzwischen spielt das Quintett mehr als 100 Konzerte im Jahr und hat viele Preise eingefahren, etwa den der besten europäischen Bluesband, ihr letztes Album wurde mit dem Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik ausgezeichnet. Sie touren von Barcelona bis Moskau und begeisterten in Los Angeles zehntausend Zuhörer.

Nach London sind sie aufgebrochen, um Neues zu probieren. Herausgekommen ist ein faszinierender Sound – unverwechselbar und mit hohem Wiedererkennungswert. Aufgenommen auf analogen Bandmaschinen, die alle aus der Zeit vor 1963 stammen, wurde hier Soul vom Feinsten aufs Album gepresst.

Retro, aber eben doch so dicht an heute dran, dass es allen in die Beine geht. Unterstützt wurden die BBs von der besten Horn Section Londons, die sonst für Van Morrison spielt. Und das hört man auf dem Album „Londond days“: etwa den mitreißenden Soultitel „Real Good Times“, die berührende Ballade „Just You“ und die groovende R’n’B-Nummer „Between The Lines“.

Übrigens gab es auch im Studio wieder eine Getränke-Unstimmigkeit: Liam servierte Tee in Massen, und die Jungs hatten so einen Kaffee-Durst…
