GET IT ON Joanna Gypser veröffentlicht ihre Debütsingle „Piece of your heart“ Als „Celine Dion des Jazz“ bezeichnete sie Labelchef und Jazzmäzen Frank Nagel-Heyer, des gleichnamigen Jazzlabels, jüngst. Und so schwer sich Joanna mit diesem großen Vergleich tut, so passend erscheint er auf den ersten Blick. Joannas klare, helle und unverwechselbare Stimme sowie ihre Erscheinung, bieten viele Parallelen zu der großen Kanadierin. Das Statement hat nur einen Haken: Joannas Welt ist nicht der Jazz, sondern die Popmusik. Und hier brilliert sie mit ihrer Debütsingle „Piece of Your heart“. Der Song ist eine einfühlsame, melodiöse Akustik-Pop-Ballade, die einen nicht mehr loslässt. Genau, wie das Thema des Titels Joanna nicht mehr losgelassen hat: „Piece of your heart“ ist ihrem vor kurzem verstorbenen Vater gewidmet. „Der Song ist im letzten Herbst aus einem Gefühl heraus entstanden, als es meinem Vater immer schlechter ging“, sagt Joanna, „als er dann starb wurde der Song plötzlich sehr persönlich und nun hat er für mich eine ganz besondere Bedeutung.“ Dabei ist besonders die Perspektive des Textes interessant. Denn anders als andere Songs, die Aspekte wie „Verlust und Schmerz“ thematisieren, ist die Erzählperspektive die des Verstorbenen, der seinen Hinterbliebenen Mutmacht. „Der Verlust und der Schmerz sollten nicht im Vordergrund stehen, sondern vielmehr die Hoffnung und Ermutigung neue Lebenswege zu suchen“, sagt Joanna. Überhaupt verwendet die Sängerin viel Sorgfalt beim Songwriting. Dabei hilft ihr, dass sie auch Klavier spielt und im eigenen Studio die Möglichkeit hat ihre Songs, zusammen mit ihrem Mann, sofort selber zu produzieren. Mit „Piece of your heart“ ist ihr dabei ein wirkliches Meisterstück gelungen. .. Kein Wunder also, dass die erfahrene Studiosängerin dies zum Anlass genommen hat um nun auch öffentlich in Erscheinung zu treten. Jeder der „Piece of your heart“ zum ersten Mal hört wird sich allerdings fragen, warum sie das nicht schon viel früher getan hat. Though Joanna has problems with the comparison, it does fit thanks to her clear and distinctive voice. But Joanna‘s world is not jazz, it's pop. Her debut single is a smooth, melodic and catchy ballad that is going to stick around. Moreover it is very personal since the lyrics stem from a painful experience. „The song came out of a feeling I had during my father’s terminal illness” the young singer says. „When he then died the song became very personal and now it has a special meaning for me.“ Interesting is the lyric’s perspective. Unlike other songs that deal with pain and loss, the perspective is not from the person that remains but from the one departing, and his message is encouragement and hope for the future. Joanna Gypser puts a lot of care and consideration into her songwriting. She has the advantage of being a professionally trained piano player and has access to a studio that belongs to her husband Florian Gypser. „Piece of my heart“ is her first release - and quite a remarkable one. So it is no surprise that the experienced studio singer took the opportunity to leave the studio and step into the lime light. However, when you listen to „Piece of your heart“ for the first time you wonder why she didn‘t do it earlier..
