TORCH GOES LOUNGE
Torch songs are songs of the jazz era, with variations on the eternally sensual theme of
unrequited love. Vocal legends such as Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone carried their torches through the lonely city, followed by Cassandra Wilson and Madeleine Peyroux. Since 2008, we have created our own interpretation of this tradition. Jasmin Odabasi will take you on a tour of dimly lit, smoky nightclubs where the tinkling of glasses can be heard. Classic repertoires from the American songbook are on the programme, as well as contemporary songs from Ani DiFranco, Tom Waits, Erykah Badu, Leonard Cohen and original compositions. The sound: jazzy electric piano meets bluesy guitar. We switch from bass to double bass depending on the mood, and the cultivated drumset is just as much part of the club night as the serviettes underneath cocktail glasses.
..Laxtons Superb ..
Good God. I thought you were an English real ale (er beer) and you turn out to be a superb lounge band. I feel like I'm sitting in a crimson velvet bar in a Scorcese film - this is a very good thing.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I REALLY appreciate that! Best wishes, and much success to you in your ventures and adventures, from The Holy City Of Oakland, J :)
