Since 2002 computermusician Eva P�pplein and electric bassist Janko Hanushevsky have been working together as a duo, performing free improvised music and composing music for radio, radioplay and theatre. The fusion of mechanically prepared bassguitar with live-electronics and field-recordings form the Merzougas characteristic sound. Commissions by DEUTSCHLANDRADIO KULTUR, DEUTSCHLANDFUNK, M�NCHNER VOLKSTHEATER, STAATSTHEATER KASSEL, schauspielfrankfurt, RADIO_COPERNICUS, Akademie Musiktheater heute a.o. Coming out December 2010: "Milomaki - Vom Vergessen und Verschwinden" (Deutschlandfunk 2010): radio documentary about the indians of terra del fuego and the explorer Martin Gusinde featuring a 49-minute electro-acoustic composition with 100-year old historic wax-cylinder recordings of the Berliner Phonogramm-Archiv. Commissioned by nationwide radioprogramme DEUTSCHLANDFUNK. Comissions for 2009: "MEKONG MORNING GLORY": 50-minute ars acustica composition commissioned by nationwide German public radio DEUTSCHLANDRADIO KULTUR, based on field-recordings collected along the Mekong River and sounds from Merzouga's vast collection of prepared electric bass-sounds "AMAZONAS": music for a theatre production at HAU 3 Berlin based on historic wax-cylinder recordings from the Berliner Phonogramm-Archiv. "MARIE T.'S DAUMENKINO": radioplay by Cologne based writer Marie T. Martin commissioned by DEUTSCHLANDFUNK. Previous commissions include, among many others, the 50-minute electro-acoustic sound composition GOOD MORNING, RICKSHAW (2008) based on field-recordings from India and music for the radio play FLUCHT ZU PFERD BIS ANS ENDE DER STADT (2007) both for DEUTSCHLANDRADIO KULTUR. The audio miniature BANGLE BASS was featured as audio podcast in the artmix.galerie series of BAYERISCHER RUNDFUNK 2008. As a live-act they perform free improvised music in duo settings and as a trio w// Swiss actor/performer Jonathan Loosli under the pseudonym LOOSLI LOUNGE. They have performed at OPENING!
