Die Partyreihe SOULBOX kommt im März mit einem hochkarätigem Booking daher...
Ben Chijioke wurde als Sohn einer Einwandererfamilie aus Nigeria in London geboren. Schon als kleiner Junge liebte er - genreunabhängig - Songs und Melodien. Bereits 1995 gab er seinen Einstand auf dem I.-G.-Culture-Album One Drop Inter Outer. Er fungierte bei mehreren Künstlern als Produzent, u. a. bei De La Soul und Talib Kweli. Er begleitete sie auf ihren Europa-Tourneen und nahm mit ihnen Tracks auf.
Ty kam mit seinem 2001 veröffentlichten hochgelobten Debütalbum Awkward aus dem Nichts und avancierte sehr schnell zu einen der meistgeschätzten Rappern der britischen Insel. Sein darauf folgendes Album Upwards, das drei Jahre danach erschien, wurde für den Mercury Music Prize nominiert. Auf diesen Album produzierte er alle Tracks selbst und verzichtete auf Gastauftritte.
Seine weltweiten Tourneen verschafften ihm eine breite Fangemeinde. 2006 erschien sein drittes Album Closer, wo sich Größen wie De La Soul oder Arrested Development wiederfinden.
Ty ist bekannt für seine Talentförderungen, wie z. B. seine Veranstaltung Lyrical Lounge, wo er jungen Talenten eine Wettstreitmöglichkeit bietet.
Am 05. März 2010 wird er im Essener Goethebunker Live auf der Bühne stehen.
Lokalen Support bieten wie gewohnt, Dj Ceeriouz und Dj Casio.
